Problem
Both of these scenes are introductions to central characters in the films. In Pulp Fiction we are introduced to Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield, two hitmen on a mission for their boss Marsellus Wallace. In Inglorious Basterds we are introduced to Col. Hans Landa, an official in Hitler's SS Nazi army.
After watching these clips, please respond with the following.
• How would you describe Tarantino's use of dialogue in each scene? In Pulp Fiction, how does he build suspense? How does he use surprise in the scene? In Inglorious Basterds, how does the suspense build? What is the turning point of the scene? What do these scenes have in common, and what makes them different?
• As a final though, which scene did you find more engaging? Which scene did you find more suspenseful? explain and why.
