Is it simply that nature and the world is hard, or are these writers trying to say something else? Does the environment become a metaphor for something larger? How does fate play into this struggle?
2) "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" have reflected a theme of isolation. What is it about this period in American Literature that pushes writers to reflect on isolation? Is this isolation always seen as a bad thing (are these meditations or laments)? What is the trying to say about isolation? About the individual? Are there any who attempt to resist isolation?
