How does corporate social responsibility influence you

Problem

Over the past 40 years more and more companies have been adding a corporate social responsibility component to their business mission and strategy. Many business and economic critics suggest that some organizations have a corporate social responsibility initiative to only improve the brand which ultimately helps the bottom line (aka profits).

Furthermore, Milton Friedman introduced the theory in a 1970 essay for The New York Times titled "A Friedman Doctrine: The Social Responsibility of Business is to Increase Its Profits". In it, he argued that a company has no social responsibility to the public or society; its only responsibility is to its shareholders.

Therefore, the question becomes.

a) Should society care about corporate social responsibility and why?
b) How does corporate social responsibility influence you and does it impact your decisions to buy/invest?
