How does a nurse know what (if any) knowledge in a research study is usable for clinical practice? What would a critical thinker look for in the evidence before deciding to change? What influence do credibility and clinical significance have on your decisions to integrate research-based evidence into your practice?

To know the usability of any research study in clinical practice, one must check the proven evidence of the research study, scope of research study in the clinical practice, verification and validation of the research study, as well as a few other critical elements. With any evidence or information collected, a critical thinker would look for the integrity of the data, as well as the usability, scope, correctness, and practicality in evidence prior to applying a change. (Shaheen Majid, 2011). Additionally, the need to assess the credibility and significance of where the information was obtained from as that would be an equally important consideration to address. With the decision to incorporate researched-based information into clinical practice, clinical significance and credibility have a great participation. In clinical practice, nurses are extremely attentive about the health of their patients and the impact of their treatment on the health and wellness of their patients. If any researched-based evidence is found to not be credible, then it can harm the health, safety and overall outcome of the patient. Therefore, credibility of the evidence is the major facet in taking evidence and applying it toward researched evidence in the clinical setting.(Conner, 2014)
