How do you respond back to this, showing interest, "Reading the section "Challenging White Privilege," gave me an eye-opening on how heavily it affects society. White privilege is a power possed by a white person that they can use in a community that is characterized by injustice and racial inequality. It allows whites to ignore their race and avoid confronting its advantages. To some white people, "white privilege" may cause them to feel guilty about themselves. Some may say they shouldn't feel guilty for being white as they are born that way. Feeling guilty cause people to work to alleviate the feeling. The book mentions "it has the potential to motivate change, to get white people to understand how they are racist, how they contribute to racial oppression, and what they can do to end it." White privilege offers advantages, whereas others may not have that type of power for themselves. Warren, a racial justice activist, mentions how the system is broken and work needs to be done to fix democracy. He states "We have got to do something about that for the good of democracy. It's just not healthy for a democracy to have that kind of racism at its core." (Warren 78) This relates to white privilege as they are described to have the "most power" in society and how they can gain advantages from society. Whereas you see other races having less power and being discriminated against by society."
