Problem
This module focuses specifically on the songs of protest of the civil rights era. Songs themselves share a long history as a part of the struggle of African Americans, first as slaves, then as freed men and women struggling for equality. For example, work songs, sung in unison, might provide at least some sense of solidarity and solace. How do these songs fit in as a part of this larger tradition of the use of songs as a means of cultural expression?
