Problem: Distal mortality threats increase people's adherence to their personal worldviews. How do TMT researchers explain this phenomenon? This phenomenon only occurs when one's personal worldview maintains belief in an afterlife. Personal worldviews help us navigate our environments safely and avoid immediate threats on our safety. People foster perceptions of social immortality by participating in and contributing to their personal worldviews. This is the one feature of TMT that has not yet been explored empirically.
