Assignment Task:

In response to two of your peers provide additional feedback about how that technology or advancement could be applied to another species of crustacean. For example, many of the advancements have centered around shrimp farming, but could be broadly applied to other species of crustaceans including ornamental species that are in the aquarium trade. For example, one of the advancements in shrimp farming is pathogen free broodstock. Would this apply to other decapod crustaceans? Why or why not? What other issues might that species be facing for advancement in their culture system? Need Assignment Help?

One of the issues I choose is about how diseases can affect the shrimp farming.  In the article Current production, challenges and the future of shrimp farming it talks about how diseases are one of the more important challenges with shrimp farms. "Shrimp production by aquaculture has been seriously impacted by diseases. In Asia, during the early 1990s, there were large scale mortalities in shrimp culture ponds in most major producing countries due to white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) and the loss has been estimated to be around $6.0 billion"(Karunasagar,2012). This shows that having any disease such as viral or bacterial outbreak it has a chance that can lead to mass mortalities. This can end up hurting the economy due to losses, impact the shrimp farms as well as including production decline, and can also have a possible chance of industry collapse. However, there are some steps that can be taken/ precaution as well as better management that can help have a healthier shrimp farm. These "Several steps can be taken by shrimp farmers to prevent disease spread, including selecting disease-free shrimp seed, controlling shrimp populations, managing water quality, providing proper feed and feed additives, and implementing strict biosecurity measures"(Fortuna,2024).
