I. During the 1930s, isolationism was popular in the United States. Yet by the late 1940s, isolationism was very unpopular because of what the nation experienced between 1941 and 1949. How did the United States become involved in the Second World War and the Cold War that began in the aftermath of the Second World War? In what ways did the Second World War and the Cold War change America's level of involvement in world affairs?
II. Post-war America in the late 1940s, 1950s and early 1960s is often described as an "affluent society." What are some specific ways that the standard of living improved for many Americans? In what ways were minorities such as African-Americans left out of this "affluent society"?
