1. Why do you think that the Mexican muralists, and the US artists of the 30s (Social Realists and Regionalists) retreated from more radical innovations in Modernism? Did you feel their art was effective in relating its message? What about Abstract Expressionism? Do you feel that those images succeed in reaching an Universal Subconcious shared by all people?
2. How did the Surrealists liberate the unconscious mind and why did they want to do this in their art? What did you think of Dada art? Did you feel it was clearly related to Surrealism?
