How did enslaved people and free blacks challenge slavery into the nineteenth century? How homogenous of a movement was abolitionism (this is a bit of a leading question here)? What were the veins and ideologies and language within the abolition movement? What roles did black and white abolitionists play? What role did women play in the movement? How did the movement to abolish slavery influence and shape first-wave feminism (the movement for women's rights to legal identities and the vote)?
