1. The presidential election of 1876 took place in an atmosphere of unbearable tension as far as the South was concerned. They were determined not to submit to the North. The North was determined they would. How did the Compromise of 1877 alleviate the tensions between the North and South? Did the Compromise of 1877 alleviate the tensions? Why or why not?
2. In regards to the readings Context in History and the Nature of History, history is a story told by people who were not present for the events in which they are reporting on, some of which took places centuries before. In order to report the events in a clear and concise manner that is understandable to the majority of people who will read the account, it is vitally important to keep several things in mind. What are they? What are the things that must be kept in mind and why? What happens if those things are not kept in mind?
