For years the world watched in fear as the ideological standoff between the U.S. and the erstwhile Soviet Union might result in Armageddon. What were the origins of the Cold War? What were the official policies of the U.S. in the aftermath of World War II, especially those that showed signs that the "cold war was heating up?" How did the Cold War lead to a new "red scare" (reminiscent of the Palmer raids of the 1920s) in the U.S.?
