After the U.S.'s abolition of the international slave trade in 1808, the South had to ?nd new ways to ensure the internal reproduction and sale of more slaves, what became known as the Second Middle Passage. What were some of the means employed by the South to achieve this; were these methods successful; and how did slaves adapt to and resist these changes?
