Assignment:
For this assignment you will be writing a short paper analyzing Athens and Sparta. You will be looking at the social, political, economic, religious and military structures present in each polis. After using the required primary source documentation and your texts you will answer the following questions, providing evidence and documentation to support your conclusion.
Question:
How did each polis define citizenship? Which of the two powerful poleis, Athens or Sparta, granted its citizens more freedom?
Guidelines: As a formal written assignment this paper will need to be proofread, spell checked, contain a cover sheet, a bibliography and citations in Chicago/Turabian style footnotes or endnotes throughout your paper for all information that you use from your sources. This paper should have a word count of between 1,000 and 1,200 narrative words (minus citation and bibliography). Please use a minimum of four sources (you may use your main text for class as one source).
