Topic: Policy Analysis
Part I of this Homework
This homework will be the first of the two-part policy process homework in which you will identify and analyze a public health policy. The first homework is a policy analysis essay and the second homework will be a redevelopment of the same policy. Visit the National Conference of State Legislation website and select a policy of interest to you. Examples of public health policies include HPV vaccinations, allocation of resources for epidemics, and tobacco and smoking to name a few.
Instructions
For this homework, do the following:
1. Describe a public health issue and an existing policy related to that issue. Discuss the series of events that led to the development of the policy, including epidemiological data that substantiated it.
2. Analyze how current policy impacts outcomes for the public health issue and the key stakeholders.
3. Evaluate who has the greatest interest in the implementation of the policy.
4. Include the alternatives that were considered before this policy was implemented.
5. Evaluate whether the policy is achieving its goals and identify the parts of it that are less effective.
6. In relation to the public health policy, analyze how cultural values and practices impact its effectiveness.
7. Identify the ethical dilemma or trade-offs policymakers must consider regarding this policy.
Topic: Redeveloping Policy
Part II of the Homework
This is the second of the two-part policy process homework. For this homework, you will focus efforts on policy redevelopment. Based on your research and analysis of the policy and issue from the previous (part I) homework, propose an updated policy that from a systemic perspective will make the policy effective in addressing the public health issue.
Instructions
In your homework, do the following:
1. Recommend modifications to the existing public health policy.
2. Justify these modifications and explain how you think they represent an improvement.
3. Evaluate related health policies that provide support for your modifications to the policy.
4. Examine how your proposed modifications address the ethical issues you identified in the previous homework.
5. Synthesize scientific, legal, and regulatory approaches that inform your proposal.
6. Evaluate opposing opinions about your proposed policy modifications.
7. Recommend additional policy changes that might be needed in the future, based on current trends.
8. Analyze how culture contributes to the issue and how you addressed this in your policy redevelopment.
Format your homework according to the give formatting requirements:
1. The answer must be double spaced, typed, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
2. The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the homework, the course title, the student's name, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
