For this activity you will consider how culturally based behaviors may be misunderstood in the classroom. You'll examine scenarios and then respond to prompts. Draw from the content on DAP as well as from the culturally responsive practices module to craft your responses. The goal is for you to identify cultural misunderstandings in behavior, reflect, and propose culturally responsive responses. Instructions Choose 2 scenarios to respond to. Answer the guiding questions for each scenario. Scenario A: The Question vs. Command Ms. Rivera asks her preschoolers, "Could you please put away the blocks?" Several children ignore the request, continuing to build. Ms. Rivera feels frustrated and sees this as defiance. Possible cultural misunderstandings: In some cultural backgrounds, indirect phrasing ("could you...") may be interpreted differently - perhaps not seen as a command but as optional.
