How cultural awareness is extremely important

Problem: Cultural awareness is extremely important because what may look and be "normal" in one cultural group may be abnormal and prohibited in another. Cultures influence how people express their distresses, how they receive medical care, etc. By not being culturally aware, clinicians risk misunderstanding, mislabeling, and possibly dismissing the client's experiences. The DSM-5 is designed to help reduce these risks, by showing open-ended questions to obtain more information about cultural identity, stressors, explanation of illnesses and more. The CFI can enhance the diagnosing process by ensuring the clinician has a fuller understanding of the client's view. It also allows the client to feel heard, seen and understood rather than being judged off of criteria. If cultural factors and influences are ignored than it could lead to misdiagnosis, ineffective or even harmful treatment that is not needed. It also increases the chances of stigma and mistrust for that specific cultural to get the mental help they need. PowerPoint reference. Need Assignment Help?
