Assignment task: Ethical and professional behavior is an unstated expectation for any criminal justice professional. Extreme violations of ethical and professional protocol are usually easy to identify. However, some practices may lie on a border between acceptable and unacceptable behavior. For example, a law enforcement officer accepting a free cup of coffee or discounted meal might be a gesture of gratitude by a business (ethical) or an attempt to have a stronger law enforcement presence at the establishment (unethical).
Discuss how criminal justice agencies can establish policies that clearly define what constitutes unethical behavior. As part of your response discuss factors that criminal justice agency leaders must consider when identifying what constitutes acceptable and unacceptable behavior, being sure to consider more than one segment of criminal justice.
