How conformity can be a positive force

Problem: Conformity can be a positive force (e.g., helping communities function) but it can also lead individuals to go along with harmful norms. Think of an example from history, current events, or your own experience where conformity had either a positive or negative outcome. What conditions made people more likely to conform in that situation? Have you ever been in a group where the final decision was worse, or riskier, than what any individual member would have chosen alone? This is sometimes called group polarization or groupthink. What do you think causes this phenomenon, and what could a group leader do to prevent it? Leadership effectiveness is often studied in social psychology. In your opinion, what qualities make someone a truly effective leader? Do you think great leaders are born or made? Use what you've learned about group dynamics and leadership styles to support your view. Need Assignment Help?
