How companies do marketing with women

Problem

I thought the ideas in Killing Us Softly were very interesting and are true on how companies do marketing with women. Although not as common or extreme as women, a similar idea can be applied to men. A lot of times in advertisements or commercials for certain products like cologne or underwear, the men are portrayed as handsome and very in shape, most of the time shirtless. A lot of the time the men that model for these advertisements either have a mysterious look to them with a short cut beard or have a very innocent clean face-- always with nice bodies. It gives off the idea that men have to look a certain way in order to look good in the product or that it's the only way they could possibly attract women. Even though this is often used for advertising, it still gives off a very unrealistic idea because not all men look like that and it can also leave others insecure and feel as if they aren't good enough.
