According to (Tibbetts & Hector-Mason, 2015), "Collaboration can be considered one of the instructional principles from the 20th century that is most suited to the technologically aware and diverse adult learner and teacher populations of the 21st century." Adult learners prefer to participate in their learning experiences actively. Using different forms of collaboration can help assist students in this endeavor. There is often a level of maturity amongst adult students that assists in working well together and working through disagreements. Also, even adult learners enjoy simple games such as Kahoots. I have enjoyed working with my teammates to win this game.

There are some challenges and drawbacks to collaboration. Lack of participation can be difficult to navigate within a group project. This can be overcome by grading students on their portion of the project. An instructor can also communicate frequently with each group to gauge the project's status and participation level. While most adult learners have become proficient in many forms of technology, assignments that rely heavily on technology can be challenging. An instructor can try to ensure that the students understand whatever technology is required.

To work on collaboration in an online setting, you can create discussion rooms where students can get together remotely through video chat or messaging to encourage cooperation. I would also like to implement group projects with slightly different standards. For example, if a course is hybrid, there can be meetings between students through such applications as Zoom. Collaboration can be achieved through discussion forums if the system does not have a video component.
