Given the historical context of the separation of church and state conversation, analyze the relationship between society, government, and religion by looking at past historical events, current events, and consider possible future events.
Relying primarily upon the resources from this phase of the course as well as your own research, create a timeline in a word or excel document that includes at least five historical examples (pre-2000) and five current event examples that highlight a progression of the relationship between government and religion. For each of the ten entries, provide a brief description of the event and discussion how this event depicts the evolving relationship between religion and American governance. Be certain to properly cite the article being referenced in each entry. You can include more than one article per example but you need to submit ten entries of unique events. You can also include appropriate quotations. Demonstrate advanced learning by referencing assigned articles from earlier phases in the course.
Finally, in a minimum of one page (300 words), reflect on how you think the current event examples have and will continue to impact the future relationship between government and religion in American society. While approximately 7% of the citizens from other industrial "first world nations," attend regular religious services, approximately 47% of the citizens of the United States attend regular religious services. How can you explain/ understand this cultural difference?
Use what you have learned thus far in the course to ground your reflection in historical context. Include a bibliography in your assignment. Submit your assignment to the appropriate discussion board.
