How can you define the field without describing the force

1. What is the difference between the electric field, electric potential, and the force exerted by the electric field?

2. How can you define the field without describing the force?

3. Can you even detect or measure it directly, seems like it is only possible by observing the force?

4. If there is only a single charge, is there really a force (ie, do you need another charge for the force to act on before it exists, since the amount of attraction/repulsion is determined (somehow???) by the force of the attraction/repulsion acting on it?)?
