A. Who is the prophet, Amos? Get some biographical or historical background of the prophet. What is the social situation of the people to who Amos was addressing? Some versions of the Bible have information on this, but you may also consult the internet.
B. Write a short summary of the book. What are the main concerns of Amos about Israel or the Jewish people? How does he feel about the issues and problems Israel is facing? What is the "day of the Lord" that Amos is proclaiming?
C. Do you think that the thoughts and feelings of Amos are relevant today? Are there similar situations between the time of Amos and our time today? What is happening in the world, or in Philippine society today, which echoes the observations of Amos? Elaborate on your comparison.
D. Are you inspired and challenged by the words of Amos? How can you be a prophet today in the tradition of Amos? Give some suggestions for yourself and for our class on how we can be prophets like Amos today in relation to the "day of the Lord."
