Mark Juergensmeyer (an author that you have not read but should be able to apply what you have learned to this question) wrote a book called The New Cold War? Religious Nationalism Confronts the Secular State. In it, he argues that so-called "fundamentalist" religious movements in various parts _ of the world present a serious and persisting challenge to the Western notion of separation of church and state. How can we account for the much religious revitalization, often linked to political movements that are going on in many areas of the globe today? What are the fundamentalists looking for?
