You have read over various ethical codes by now and the ideas related to values and the helping relationship. Regardless of the context in which this helping occurs, you and the person you help will have differing worldviews and will perceive things differently. One possible result of differing worldviews can be a conflict in values; however, it is important to be able to work with others despite the value differences. However, values can also give a positive direction to the helping relationship. What stands out for you regarding the influence of values in the interactions with others? In what ways could your values both benefit and impede in the work of helping others? Another way of asking this question is, "How can values be positive and negative?" Support your statements from course and other materials.
