You receive another email, from a different friend. She had listened to a podcast about huge racial disparities in who plays what positions in American football. Black players are far more likely out of proportion to their numbers to play positions like running back, wide receiver, and cornerback. White players are far more likely to play positions like quarterback (though this has changed somewhat recently) and center. But your friend is puzzled. Well-known sports sociologist Harry Edwards (creator of the Soc 117 course!) came on the podcast at one point and explained that there is not necessarily personal prejudice involved in these disparities.
