Answer the following:
A. A challenge in teaching the Rizal course is how to highlight the historical Rizal in the current situation of the students (what may be considered as relevant to them). Rizal, to them, can be considered just a part of the past history of the town and is no longer appealing or attractive to pay special attention like that given to major subjects or the student's specialization. Even if the student has an awareness of Rizal's heroism that should be imitated and continue the current struggle against poverty, oppression, discrimination, inequality, because Rizal is a product of the past, he has a possible replacement that is newer, more close, more 'in'. How can Rizal keep up with what is offered by the modern concept of heroism today?
B. Due to the immediate gift of modern tools to meet the changing needs of people today (Google, internet, smart phones), analysis, research, decision-making becomes lighter, easier. It will be noticed that the traditional and previous methods are being put aside because they no longer respond to the fast pace of society. Insisting on the historical method in teaching Rizal, for example, can make the current student, holding the gadget and listening to the new album records, bored. The close-historical-biographical narratives they heard in high school are no longer acceptable to their taste. Apparently, it no longer becomes a fruitful tool. The discussion is old, the method is still old fashioned.
C. Even though Ibarra, Simon, and Philosopher Tasyo met as students in high school and met again in college, they still don't know each other. The concept of nationalism, love of the country, serving the people as a chosen stand, still seems elusive. Rizal's statue is only looked up to once. It is rare that there is a seed that grows in the will of the youth and focus hard on Noli, El Fili might have a strange feeling now that will be formed for the town. On the other hand, you may be forced to fulfill the requirements of the course as it is required to complete your studies. If so, what struggle is needed now to deepen the recognition, the reading, the imitation of Rizal?
