How better mental training help boost athletic performance


Problem:

One of my article analysis's I did for my sports psychology application track was about how better mental training can help boost athletic performance, and help with improving injury recovery times. I find it quite interesting because I never realized how much having a rock steady mental health could help with faster recovery times, and also help boost athletic performance. Article Analysis 3 Mental Skills Training and Athletic Performance By: Kevin Hayes (2021) The third and final article focused on how the mental skills training helps to boost athletic performance and also injury recovery. Hayes (2021) explained how athletes will often experience psychological stress like anxiety, loss of focus, and mental blocks. Sports psychology addresses issues like those through mental toughness training, which focuses on areas like focus and emotional control. Important strategies that were used were things like goal-setting, visualization, and cognitive-behavior strategies. Athletes will interact with psychologists to help create and develop individual mental training plans based on the athletes strengths, but also on their weaknesses. The results showed that goal-setting helps improve motivation, with visualization helps to enhance motor performance through mental practice. Psychological interventions will also help to boost injury recovery by helping to reduce, or even completely remove anxiety and helping to improve coping skills/mechanisms. Need Assignment Help?
