Problem: My initial reaction to the ban on hiring smokers in healthcare is that I agree with the ban. While smoking is a personal choice, it is damaging and can affect not only the smoker but also the people around him and cause cancer, heart disease, and other health problems that might lead to death. I consider myself a healthy person, but I am sensitive to cigarette smoke and cannot bear it when I am around someone who smokes. How about patients who might have a respiratory condition? So, healthcare workers should set a good example for the community.
