How a continuous improvement policy would monitor

Assignment:

Objective: From the Case Studies below, prepare a report detailing how the issues were identified and actioned, and also how a continuous improvement policy would monitor future performance.

Insight: Campbell Arnotts - Changing behaviour - Factory Waste Segregation

To encourage the correct segregation of waste, Campbell Arnotts installed bag frames and removed Green Wheelie bins.

They identified that general-waste green wheelie bins were an issue on site due to the following:

• Lines had responsibility for emptying and cleaning wheelie bins - in reality washing was infrequent and often the bins were left by the compactor.

• The lines therefore were unable to find any green wheelie bins to use during production. This led to team members using the red and white bins (stockfeed waste bins) for all waste, rather than just biscuit waste.

• As the biscuit waste was contaminated with general waste, these bins would be disposed of in the general waste compactor not the stockfeed waste. Campbell Arnotts trialled the bag frame initiative on Line 4. There was a very positive response, therefore it was rolled out to the entire site.

• The bag frames remain on the line. The bags when full are removed from the frame and taken to the compactor. The total cost for bag frames was $11,000. Also, Campbell Arnotts only uses biodegradable bags in the bag frames.
