hospital inspections - fire protection

Hospital Inspections - fire protection engineering:

There are a number of sections in NFPA101 that deal with health care premises, some for existing buildings and some for new buildings.  Buildings where the occupants sleep in the hospital are dealt with separately from buildings where the patients are 'out- patients' and do not sleep in the building.  Also, there is NFPA99 Health Care Facilities Code which deals with the fire safety aspects of building facilities such as:

Gas vacuum systems

Electrical systems

IT and communications systems

Plumbing

Air conditioning systems

Electrical equipment Gas equipment Emergency management Security management Fire protection features

The  most  significant  fire  safety  aspect  of  hospitals  is  the  fact  that  many  of  the occupants are unable to evacuate from a fire area without assistance.   Also, these occupants often have life saving care equipment surrounding them that has to travel with them.
