Hesc 349 measurement and statistics in health science -

Part -1:

1) The final project is like a VERY abbreviated mini research report, where you will be running a combination of descriptive statistics and inferential statistics on a dependent variable and an independent variable that you chose. So you will be describing the data (descriptive statistics), conducting hypothesis tests, and then providing conclusions about your findings.

2) In the interest of time, I purposely made the choices of paired dependent variable and independent variable for you to choose. I created a google doc's link, which includes several choices of paired dependent and independent variables. To choose the paired variables for your final project, you put your name and last name right in front of the paired variables you would like to work on. It is a first comes, first served. The google doc is a real-time document. If your friend already chose and put his/her name on that paired variables, you are not allowed to choose the same one and needed to find another one. You can access the google doc's link on Tuesday, November 15th, 2016 via Titanium. Prior to November 15th, 2016, I will post a list of paired dependent and independent variables, an SPSS data file and a final project format on the Titanium so that you would have a sense of the characteristics of each variable and the organization of the final project.

3) The SPSS data file purposely used only for the final project in HESC 349 course is modified from Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey (BRFSS), Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

4) Steps to complete the final project

4.1) Look at a list of paired dependent and independent variables, an SPSS data file and a final project document on the Titanium

1)2) Open up a google sheet's link and put your first and last name in front of the paired dependent and independent variables you would like to work on the final project.

1)3) Complete the final project. Please organize your document neatly e.g. page break, tables, graphs, charts etc. to avoid point deductions.

1)4) Print it out and submit it in class on the final exam.

Part -2:

Paired of dependent and independent variables you selected:
- Dependent variable name : ___________________________
- Independent variable name : __________________________

I. Background [50 points] (at least 200 words)Describe previous research studies, reports, or any evidence that support the relationship between these two variables.

Please reference your sources at the end using APA format.

See the link: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/10/.

II. Descriptive statistics and one appropriate graph of the dependent variable

Show SPSS descriptive table and one appropriate graph. Logically and sufficiently explain the table.

III. Descriptive statistics and one appropriate graph of the independent variable

Show SPSS descriptive table and one appropriate graph. Logically and sufficiently explain the table.

IV. The inferential statistical test

(1) Choose an appropriate inferential statistical test

(2) sufficiently explain the logical reason of choosing this test and

(3) state the null and alternative hypotheses.

V. Run the test on SPSSand show the SPSS output table

and answer the following questions

• How many total valid observations are in the sample?

• What is the test statistics value (observed value)?

• What is the p-value?

• Do you reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis? Why?

VI. Run the correlation test between your dependent and independent variables

Show the SPSS output table and explain the result of the correlation between dependent and independent variables
