Herrnstein and Murray (1994) argue that the recent decline in cognitive test performance among United States students is due to the negative pressures of low-IQ parents outbreeding high-IQ parents, and thus high-IQ parents will tend to have higher IQ children. They also posit that this downward trend will continue and have very negative social consequences (e.g., see the movie Idiocracy). What do you think of this hypothesis?
