Topic: Health Information Exchange
Description:
Each student will write a paper reviewing the Chicago Metropolitan Health Council's Health Information Exchange (HIE). The student will draw upon all learning and knowledge from their current and past courses, practice and as a consumer of health care services. This will be a formal paper of 5-8 pages excluding references and graphs. The student will investigate the topic, research the literature, analyze and discuss, and summarize their findings.
The purpose of this assignment is for the student to synthesize the learning from the course with past knowledge in to a formal paper. The paper should demonstrate knowledge of the nursing informatics, information science, population based health, and ethics. The student will need to discuss the HIE in relation to the following items: providers, payers, consumers, privacy, data security, data ownership, feasibility, institutional participation, sponsors, ethical consideration, population based health perspective, continuum of care, the Affordable Care Act and governmental policy. This is a sample list of topics for discussion and the student is not limited to this list of items. A minimum of five items for discussion is expected.
In the conclusion, summarize their findings, and draw a professional conclusion about the HIE and its impact on the health care of metropolitan Chicago. Additionally, the student will select a graph demonstrating their understanding of the HIE. The graph will be inserted into the paper following APA format.
