Provide a substantive response (minimum of 100 words) to at least two of your peers. Contrast your research to your peers' findings in terms of barriers.

Are your peers' recommendations feasible? Jamie Gordon Locate and share statistical data for your community on annual suicide and homicide rates. The most recent data show there have been more deaths in New York City from suicides than from homicides, and that suicide rates have risen between 2000 and 2014. In 2014, 565 suicides were reported in NYC.

The rate of suicides in NYC increased from 5.5 in 2000 to 6.3 per 100,000 people in 2014. In 2014, there were 328 homicides, the lowest number since at least 1963 and they continue to drop.

The homicide rate also dropped from 2015, down from 352 to 335 in 2016 (nyc.gov) Identify and briefly describe one organizational barrier and one financial barrier relating to the suicide- and homicide-prone.

Organizational Barrier- an organizational barrier occurs when there is a limited number of health care locations within poor, urban areas.(Burkholder, Nash, 2014, section 6.1). Financial Barrier- A financial barrier occurs when a program has limited funding or the funding that the program is receiving is either limited or completely unavailable.

Unfortunately for these people, that means that they may not have proper access to healthcare facilities. (Burkholder, Nash, 2014) Create two recommendations on ways each of these barriers can be reduced or eliminated. For reducing the organizational barrier, access to proper healthcare that meet all mental health and medical needs are important.

No matter what someone's income may be, it is important for people to be able to have access to the same help and have the same available resources. For reducing the financial barrier, free access to more treatment facilities to all populations should be available, especially for the low income populations.

The cost of checking yourself into a hospital is high and not many people can afford that, no matter how desperate for help they may be. Identify two local resources available for suicide- or homicide-prone individuals.

Discuss which services are offered and whether the services fully meet the needs of the population. One resource available to suicidal/homicidal people is a 24/7 crisis hotline/ suicide prevention hotline. This hotline allows people to anonymously call in and get the help they need without needing to go far and pay money for.

Experts work with the people on the other end and can provide them with the help that they need and the resources to get help. Another available resource is the NYS Psychiatric Institute.

This mental health hospitals allows people to check themselves in if they are feeling unstable and consumed with overwhelming thoughts such as suicide or homicide and provide the help they need.

A mental evaluation can be done along with talking to professionals and therapists and getting to the root of their impulses and helping them come out of it.
