Have you ever looked at your family and wondered

Problem

Have you ever looked at your family and wondered, "Who are these people? Was I switched at birth or something? We just do not think alike." As we develop along the life span we encounter individuals and families that are very different from our own and sometimes, we find those other families more compatible with our attitudes and beliefs than the people who share our homes and/or family names. Individuals (maybe even children) construct meaning that is influenced by interaction with those around them. If this assertion is true, then why do we not always agree with family members? After all, growing up, we spend most of our time with people who share our household. We learn that certain adults are powerful or nurturing or in some way "due" our respect. We love our siblings and may want to be more like them. But family is not the only influence on our beliefs. Do you think it is healthy or unhealthy to hold beliefs that differ from your family members? How do you handle diversity of thought within your own family?
