Assignment task:
This midterm essay is relatively straightforward, I want you to consider what you've read in the class and compose a thematic essay based on the themes of Democracy, Race and Representation and answer the question: has America ever really lived up to its promise as a Democracy?
1. You must use academic sources and this can include your textbook but it cannot be your only source.
2. The essay must be at least 600 words, not including the bibliography and in-text citations.
3. Focus on your understanding of the dynamics of American democracy and, don't lean too much into metaphor or allegory- lean into the theme and research. If you're saying "I believe" or "In my opinion" or making statements of beliefs at the end of your essay, all of that is unnecessary.
