1. Drawing from across the module and other sources, critically assess the extent to which theories of crime and deviance can inform the development of crime prevention strategies.
You are free to choose from the wide range of theories covered over the duration of the module but you need to be selective. The key to the question is analyzing what the theories you have selected to focus on say about preventing crime. For example, should we focus on punishing the offender, perhaps through longer sentences? Deterrence? Should we focus instead on eradicating the cause of the criminal condition, whether these are biological, physiological or sociological? Do some theories have much greater crime prevention potential than others? Therefore, you should not see this as an opportunity to write everything you know about a particular set of theories: the focus should be on evaluating the crime prevention implications (or lack of) of those theories.
