Question: Post an approximately 300-word response to the suggested discussion question. There are a number of ways to approach this assignment: consider the reading in relation to its historical or theoretical context; write about an aspect of the week's reading that you don't understand, or something that jars you; formulate an insightful question or two about the reading and then attempt to answer your own questions; or respond to another student's post, building upon it, disagreeing with it, or re-thinking it. In any case, strive for thoughtfulness and nuance.

Suggested Discussion Question: Globalization is generally a controversial topic. Many believe that globalization provides opportunities for economic growth but increases social inequalities. Thus, while it has been argued that globalization promotes growth and development for the benefit of all, many concerns have been raised regarding the impact of globalization on jobs, wages, job security (or insecurity) and working conditions. For example, a German Marshall Fund (2007) survey shows that about half of Americans and Europeans think that "freer trade" results in more job loss than job creation. Globalization has also been blamed for the recent financial crisis and its effects on employment. Please examine the impact of globalization on jobs and wages around the world and discuss whether policies should be developed and implemented to make globalization socially sustainable.
