Global Positioning System:
For power utilities, the basic objective of using Global Positioning System (GPS) and GIS should be to:
- enhance the efficiency of transmission/distribution system in terms of quality of power;
- increase revenue earning;
- decrease T&D losses (both technical and commercial) as well as outages; and
- combine the functions of independent offices into the mainstream operational hierarchy with the help of organisation-wide networking.
