Problem:
Give a definition/explanation of "relief" sculpture. Then choose one relief each from the following eras/cultures found in your textbook: ancient Egyptian, High Classical Greek, Early, High, and Late Empire Rome, Late Antique and Byzantine.
a. Discuss the subject matter depicted in each relief you chose.
b. Also discuss whether the relief is low, middle, or high relief in the way it is sculpted from its background stone.
c. Include a discussion of the function of that relief and what it symbolically represents to that culture.
d. Also elaborate on how the human form is depicted (large, small, stick, frontal and/or profile views, etc.) and evolves through time from the early eras up through Rome, and the level of sophisticated technique used in each.
