Give a brief summary outline of the article you are

Guidelines for Group Presentation

You and your partner should be prepared to make a 10 to 15 minute presentation on your chosen reading for the purpose of class discussion. You don't need to do any extra research. You don't need to have all the answers. You need only read the text, reflect on the topic enough to give a brief summary of the material contained in it, and provide some questions to the class for discussion.

Pre-Presentation: Your group will submit a written summary of the reading at least two class meetings in advance of your presentation. It should be one or two paragraphs (altogether around 250-300 words). In this you will give an overview of your presentation. You're also encouraged to submit your three discussion questions in advance.

If you wish to get any feedback in advance, submit your summary at least a week before your presentation date. The earlier the better.

Presentation: The presentations should comprise three components:

• Summary: Give a brief summary outline of the article you are presenting. Depending on the reading, this should convey to us the main ideas explored in the article, the central questions asked, and any claims, arguments, and evidence the authors make. How well do the authors support their main points? (Whether you are critical of the article or support its conclusions, you should supply reasons for your agreement or disagreements.)

• Reflection: What about the topics in the reading relate to ideas covered in this class so far? Does this reading help us think about, analyze, or understand these topics better? Are other notable aspects of the article do you want to point out?

• Discussion: Formulate two or three questions for the class to discuss further.
