Germ Layers - Metazoa

The infolding of the blastoderm of the blastula forms a gastrula with two or more layers. The outer layer is the ectoderm' and the endoderm lines the inner cup. Later in development a third layer, the mesoderm, typically develops between the two. These three embryonic layers from which various organs of the animal are developed are called germ layers.
