Genomics is the study of the structure, function and the evolution of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) or ribonucleic acid (RNA) sequences which comprise the genome of living organisms. Genomics is closely related (and is almost synoynmous) to genetics; the former is more directly concerned with the DNA structure, function and evolution whereas the concluding emphasizes the consequences of the genetic transmission for the distribution of heritable traits in families and in the populations.
