Effect of a Free prepared meal and incentivized weight loss program on weight loss and weight loss maintenance in obese and overweight women by Cheryl L. Rock, Shirley W. Flatt, and Nancy E. Sherwood. The subject of this article is to discuss commercial weight loss programs and how effective they are in controlled trials. The audience for this article is women since all case studies done were with overweight women. The reason for this article is to see if a free prepared meal and incentives promote greater weight loss in two years compared to usual care. This article is effective because it has long-term study cases with commercial weight loss or usual care.

Obesity in adults in the United States remains at an all-time high (Cheryl, 2010). The paper focuses on having two different groups of women approach weight loss. The first group is given a prepacked meal, five days of physical activity with at least 30 minutes, and counseling sessions. The other group is given just advice on how to achieve weight loss. They are taught about the proper diet; physical activity is recommended and so are counseling sessions. Both groups are contacted over a period to get an update on their results.

The organization and format of this paper are very organized. The authors broke the paper down into sections such as methods that are used, interventions, assessment of study outcomes, and results. The author had a lot of statistics to back up their study and why they chose to do these studies. In the paper, the author explained why women were picked for this study and not men which is because men comprise the minority of enrollees in weight loss programs.

This paper appeals to logic because the author always used facts and conducted a two-year-long study case on weight loss which has better data to see if commercial weight loss programs are effective. With that case study, this also appeals to credibility. The groups that were being studied were given all the required information and even meal plans to get the most accurate results.

In conclusion, these strategies appeal to the audience because the results showed that by just using prepacked meals, women were able to lose more weight than usual care. The strategies also accomplish the purpose of the author because anyone who researches a similar subject can already have accurate information.
