Review a job description through a job website in your desired career field and identify at least five skills you have obtained through your general education courses that will make you successful at this job. My original plans got derailed so to speak after I got a promotion at my current job. I had planned to move this degree into medical school and begin my journey to becoming a neuroradiologist. While I do still have a passion for the brain, I have decided to go in a different direction, one which is not listed on job websites because it is a special position offered through my company. I will become an Administrative Training Specialist where I will train people to do the job I do now, and the job is remote, so I can work from anywhere. I will be able to utilize my passion for how and why the brain works through showing my trainees what works neurologically and what does not. Through general education I have gained the following skills that will help me to be successful in this newfound career path;

1. Moral Character, specifically commitments and attitudes because a negative attitude is easily portrayed over the phone, which is how 90% of our communication is done.

2. Communication, specifically oral and interpersonal through language and speech as this is a huge part of the career path I have chosen.

3. Critical Thinking using identifying problems and utilizing decision making skills as we have to be quick to think on our toes.

4. Information Literacy, which is described on the Ashford University website as "allow individuals to recognize when information is needed, to locate it, evaluate it, and effectively use it to communicate a message or support a claim" which happens a lot in our line of work. Being able to judge how someone else is feeling without seeing them and being able to effectively communicate.

5. Quantitative Reasoning, specifically being able to efficiently process data is very important in our line of work. While working with numbers is not needed for those who I will be training, it will be very important for me as I will oversee accounts and ensuring that payments have been made.

Demonstrate with at least two examples how your newly acquired knowledge and skills have shaped both your personal and professional development.

1. Communication has never been an issue for me in my personal life, but I have noticed that there has been struggle professionally. I tend to shy away or feel that I should leave it to someone else if I do not feel qualified. I am realizing the importance of communicating properly with my team and the need for open communication both ways.

2. In my personal life Quantitative Reasoning has always been a struggle, I have Dyscalculia (Numeric Dyslexia) so numbers have never been easy for me. I worked so hard through my math classes here at Ashford and I finally feel confident in my ability to process and interpret data.

Describe your plans for putting your education to use within your community. I have discovered so much about myself throughout my journey with Ashford and I love the changes I have seen in myself, as well as in how I view my sons struggles with school. I feel that it is much easier to relate to him and I am less likely to have a 'suck it up' attitude now. As far as using my education within the community, I'm still unsure how that will play out but I have a bit to figure it out.
