There are many ways to view conflict and many ways to come to resolution around it. These two videos offer not only a way of seeing the possibility in conflict, but also examples of applying restorative practice (one approach) to conflict. From your own experience, professional and personally, what are your challenges with conflict? If you avoid it, why? If you compromise, why? What's an example of how you have solved a conflict? In thinking about our conversations and readings on identity, how does your identity and perspective on, and feelings about, conflict impact your approach to communication? As you think about these questions and the below videos, think about how culture and cultural differences are inescapable in communication, including conflict.

Most people think that conflict leads to destruction, competition to winning. Carmit Yadin presents another approach of these concepts, reshaping our way to cope with them.

Katy Hutchison became a Restorative Justice advocate following the murder of her first husband. After ten years of sharing her story internationally to over five hundred schools and community groups, she views the education system as the structure with the most potential to affect positive social change. Katy sits on the Boards of Restorative Practices International & Glenlyon Norfolk School and volunteers for Leave Out Violence (LOVE).
