From last weeks reading, "Africa Since 1940: The Past of the Present" by Frederick Cooper, its mentioned "In 1940s leading colonial regimes decided development required a healthy, skilled and educated workforce, capable of sustaining itself..which African government backed by ...devoting enormous effort." Yet at the same time, it "also left Africa with a burden that makes the new situation more difficult to escape: debt." Pertaining to the reading, what reasons do you think that the African government supported the leading colonial regimes and why do you think so? If placed in that situation upon knowing the outcome, would you still seek the same path that the African government followed?
